INTTUC unit secretary of Kumardihi-B colliery in Pandaveswar near Durgapur, employed as an attendance clerk in the same colliery, allegedly attacked an executive of the colliery when the executive asked him to clarify why a miner had been marked present on 8 August, though he had not reported for work. At this, Mr Mukherjee got enraged and even put his gun on the head of the executive.
Family members of Malay Haldar who was in the ill-fated INS Sinhurakshak that exploded and sank at the naval dockyard in Mumbai on August 14 was officially informed that DNA tests has confirmed that of the ten bodies recovered so far, one is that of Malay Haldar. The mortal remains will be arriving at the Kolkata airport around 8.50am on Saturday. The Navy will carry the body to Durgapur and hand it over to the family.
