Assembly poll Durgapur – CPI(M) candidate

CPI (M) has declared its candidate for the two assembly seats of Durgapur for the forthcoming assembly election. Comrade Alpana Chowdhury from Durgapur (Purba) and Comrade Biprendu Chakraborty from Durgapur (Paschim) will be contesting the assembly poll on CPI (M) ticket. Left Front Chairman, Comrade Biman Bose has announced the list of 294 Left Front candidates for the forthcoming assembly poll in a press conference after a meeting with all the parties of the Left Front on 13th May.
Though Comrade Biprendu Chakraborty is the sitting MLA of Durgapur Paschim, but Comrade Alpana Chowdhury is contesting her first assembly election. She is currently a councilor of Durgapur Municipality Corporation. Known for her works among the underprivileged and poor she has a strong political base as well. At a time when the Left Front is facing its toughest assembly election in West Bengal, nominating Comrade Alpana Chowdhury in Durgapur Purba seat is a very well thought out decision considering her popularity among the poor section of the society.
Comrade Biprendu Chowdhury, popularly known as “Bhajanda” won the last assembly election convincingly in 2006. He defeated his nearest Trinamool Congress candidate, Apurba Mukherjee by a margin of 36193 votes.
As Congress and Trinamool Congress has not been able to form an alliance yet, so it is not known who will be the main opposition candidate in both the assembly seats of Durgapur. But considering the fact, that this time the opposition challenge will be a tough one, both the left front candidates of Durgapur have embarked upon massive campaign from the very first day. Both the assembly seats of Durgapur will go into poll on 7th May 2011.
