Durgapur News Desk, 01 February 2018: The dead body of deputy superintendent of Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital (BSMCH), Dr Nimai Debnath (56), was found hanging from the ceiling of his room in his house at Sagarbhanga Colony under Coke Oven police station in Durgapur this afternoon. He has left behind his wife and two daughters. Family sources said that he had been suffering from mental illness in recent times.
He has also served as the superintendent of Durgapur Sub Divisional Hospital in 2008 for more than two years. After completing Higher Secondary from the prestigious Bidhan Chandra Institution in Durgapur, he studied MBBS at Nilratan Sarkar Medical College in Kolkata.
While the elder daughter is an employee of an IT company in Bengaluru, the younger daughter is a student of class 12. His wife went to her parents’ house in Sagarbhanga area of Durgapur to attend her father’s funeral ceremony, but Dr. Debnath told her that he would go to the bank first and join her later.
When his wife, a doctor herself, returned home at around 2 p.m., she found that the door was closed from inside. Later, the door had to be broken to find his body hanging from the ceiling of a first floor room in his house.
Police rushed to the spot and sent the dead body at Durgapur Sub-divisional Hospital for post mortem. An unnatural death case has been initiated. Police suspect that he committed suicide.
