Durgapur News Desk, 27 December 2016: A call centre executive was found hanging at her rented Durgapur home on Sunday afternoon. The woman, Akanksha Raut, 30, was from Shaheed Nagar locality in Bhubaneswar and worked as the outbound manager of a Durgapur-based call centre for the last couple of years.
On 25 December evening, one of Akanksha’s colleagues, Sanjana Behra, had gone to her rented apartment at Durgapur’s Vidyasagar Pally, a km away from her office on Rajmahal Road in the industrial township’s Bhiringi locality. When despite several knocks Akanksha didn’t open the door, Sanjana informed the landlord Bachhu Yadav and the matter was subsequently informed to the police. The police finally broke open the door and found her hanging.
Akanksha’s landlord Bachhu Yadav, a Punjab National Bank (PNB) employee, said he was at home on Sunday afternoon. “Akanksha was a tenant on the ground floor of my house for several years. Around 4.30 p.m. on Sunday, a woman who introduced herself as Akanksha’s colleague, called me after getting no response from Akanksha’s apartment, in spite of several knock on the door. We called the police immediately who broke open the rear entrance to the ground floor and found Akanksha hanging from the ceiling. The top end of the rope around her neck was tied to the hook of the ceiling fan.”
Police later sent the body for autopsy to Durgapur sub divisional hospital. The police also informed the matter to the family members of Akanksha, who arrived on Monday morning from Bhubaneswar. After the autopsy was done yesterday, Akanksha’s family members left Durgapur with her body which will be cremated at Bhubaneswar.
Akanksha had joined Hinduja Global Solutions, an ITES company four years ago as Assistant Manager (operation), but was later promoted to the post of Deputy Manager (operation). She according to her colleagues at Durgapur office as a shy girl and used to stay away from gatherings. Akanksha attended her duty on Saturday as usual and never look depressed when last seen, reported her colleagues. Her weekly off day was on Sunday.
The police are yet to ascertain whether it is a case of homicide or suicide. The police have already questioned some of his colleagues and recovered her mobile and laptop from her rented home in Benachity.
