Once again the industrial town of Durgapur witnessed raw and brutal violence when a CPM cadre was dragged out of his workplace and beaten up allegedly by Trinamool Congress supporters on Saturday (July 13) afternoon. The CPM cadre was initially admitted at Durgapur Sub Division hospital in Bidhannagar, but as his condition worsened, had to be shifted to private hospital in Durgapur.
Sanatan Pal, the CPM cadre working with the state owned Durgapur Projects Limited at its Sagarbhanga sub-station was dragged out of the sub-station by a group of armed Trinamool Congress supporters, who stormed into the office at around 12.30 pm on Sunday. But Sanatan managed to give them a slip. The attackers were led by Mr. Pradip Pal – a Trinamool Congress candidate of Barjora panchayat. He was however caught while holed up at a relative’s place in Sagarbhanga and was thrashed badly.
Sanatan Pal and his associates allegedly had raided the house of Apurba Pal – family member of Mr Pradip Pal, the Trinamool Congress candidate of Barjora panchayat and assaulted him. Apurba and his family members lodged an FIR with the Barjora PS.
Since Sanatan had disappeared after Friday’s incident, the Bankura police couldn’t trace him. The aggrieved family members and party colleagues of Apurba today located him at his workplace and beat him mercilessly.
The CPM, meanwhile, lodged a complaint with the local Coke-Oven Police Station here on Saturday, and demanded the arrest of Sanatan’s attackers.
The incident has raised many eyebrows and a valid question as to how Trinamool supporters were allowed a free run at a state owned utility’s premises.
