Though shooting of film is something not new for the people of Durgapur, but top Bollywood actors spending a week in this industrial town, because of the shooting of an upcoming Bollywood Hindi movie has definitely been the talking point of among the residents of Durgapur.
Shooting for the Bollywood Hindi movie, “Gunday” has been going on in the Kottadih Colliery near Raniganj for the past week. Gunday is produced by Yash Raj Films production and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Top Bollywood actors, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor are the leading hero while Priyanka Chopra is in the heroine of the film.
The whole team of Gunday is staying at hotel, “City Residency”, one of the star category hotels of Durgapur. When Priyanka Chopra stepped out of the hotel and went into the nearby Junction Mall, to have a glimpse of some books at the book store, “Crossword”, the crowd turned euphoric. The crowd got so unruly that the store owner had to call the police to escort the actress out safely.
Ranveer, Arjun and Priyanka even went to see a movie in Bioscope at Junction Mall. But spotting the actors, the crowd started pouring in, in thousands to catch a glimpse of the stars. There were people waiting to click a picture with them. The team had no option but to return.
Even at the shooting spot in Kottadih Colliery at a distance of about 20 Km from Durgapur, there was much of enthusiasm seen among the locals, who were mainly miners. When crowd of people surrounded Ranveer, asking for photographs and autographs, the actor obliged his fans, the bewildered crew however had to wrap up the shoot for the day.
Interestingly Priyanka Chopra, the Bollywood heartthrob is from another industrial town of India, Jamshedpur. Durgapur and Jamshedpur are both known for their steel plants. Priyanka Chopra winner of the Miss World pageant of 2000 is well aware of the culture of small town like Durgapur because he herself has grown up in Jamshedpur, a small town of Bihar.
