Five workers of Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) under Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has made Durgapur proud by bagging the prestigious Shram Shree award for the year 2010. These five workmen of Durgapur Steel Plant are the only representatives in any category in the list of 76 Shram Award winners for 2010. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 40,000/- and a ‘Sanad’.
The Government of India today announced the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for the year 2010 under different categories to be awarded to 76 workers employed in the Departmental Undertakings and Public Sector Undertakings of the Central and State Governments and Private Sector Units employing 500 or more workers in recognition of their distinguished performances, innovative abilities, outstanding contribution in the field of productivity and exhibition of exceptional courage and presence of mind. The Prime Minister’s Shram Awards were instituted in 1985 by Government of India. These Awards are announced every year on the eve of Independence Day. The four types of awards under Shram Award in the order of precedence are Shram Ratna, Shram Bhushan, Shram Vir and Shram Shri/Devi.
SHRAM RATNA, being the highest award is awarded to a worker of really outstanding caliber. The award carries a cash award of Rs.2,00,000 and a ‘Sanad’.
SHRAM BHUSHAN is awarded to workers who have made exceptional contribution in productivity/production and have also shown innovative abilities of high order. The award carries a cash award of Rs.1,00,000/- and a ‘Sanad’.
SHRAM VIR is awarded to workers who have a continuous record of dedicated service and high order of productivity. The award carries a cash award of Rs. 60,000/- and a ‘Sanad’.
SHRAM SHRI/DEVI is awarded to workers who have shown exceptional zeal and enthusiasm for work and have had significant contribution towards productivity. The award carries a cash award of Rs. 40,000/- and a ‘Sanad’.
This year, no nomination was found suitable for the presitigious Shram Ratna Award. Twelve nominations for the Shram Bhushan Award, Thirty Eight nominations for Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana and Twenty Six nominations for Shram Shree/Shram Devi Awards have been selected. Even though, the total number of Shram Awards is 33, the number of workers receiving the Awards is 76 (including one women), as some of the Awards have been shared by workers and/or teams of workers consisting of more than one worker. These include 57 workers from the public sector and 19 workers from the private sector.
All these five workers of Durgapur Steel Plant who jointly bagged this prestigious Shram Shree award for 2010 are from Sinter Plant. The name of the five award winners are – S/Shri Avijit Kumar Chanda, Sasanka Roy, Soumen Mondal, Atanu Sain and Rathin Banerjee They have been awarded for their extra ordinary zeal and enthusiasm for work, thereby making remarkable contribution towards productivity. This National level award is bound to give a major boost to the image of the company. Apart from the cash prize and ‘Sanad’ the awardees are also eligible for 75% concession in 2nd Class Rail Fare. The awardees are also allowed the following facilities for attending the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards Presentation Function:-
1. To bring one guest
2. Air Fare (Economy) or expenditure incurred on actual mode of travel both ways, whichever is less, both for the awardee and one guest.
3. Lodging facilities for two days both for the awardee and one guest, and
4. Out of pocket expenses of Rs. 2,000/- for both the awardee and one guest.
This recognition of Government of India to outstanding contribution of these five workers of Durgapur Steel Plant towards production and productivity will definitely motivate others which will certainly pave the path for a brighter future of the company.
