Durgapur celebrates Rabindra Jayanti

The industrial town of Durgapur celebrated Rabindra Jayanti on 09th May 2011, with much importance. This year being 150th birth anniversary celebration of Kabi Guru Rabindra Nath Tagore, has been observed with much respect reflecting the rich cultural and literary tradition of the Bengalis. The fact that Durgapur is a cosmopolitan city with people from different culture does not in any way hinder the love and respect of the people for this Nobel laureate poet.

Shantiniketan – the home town of Rabindra Nath Tagore, which is just 45 Km from Durgapur is the place where the man Rabindra Nath is literally worshipped. Being so close to Shantiniketan, one will definitely feel the cultural similarity between the two places.
Various educational institutions and cultural clubs of Durgapur remembered Kabi Guru Rabindra Nath Tagore through his numerous poems, dramas, dance dramas and short stories. There is no denying the fact that the kind of celebration which was there on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti, ten years back is not seen now. But the young generation still finding the relevance of Rabindra Nath in this age of modern form of multimedia entertainment speaks of the rich cultural bindings of the Bengalis. This bonding is further strengthened and protected through a joyous celebration of the festival of Rabindra Jayanti.
