Durgapur gears for the cultural extravaganza – Bongo Utsav

MTS –the well known mobile telecom service provider in association with Eastern India’s largest selling English newspaper, The Telegraph will hold a cultural extravaganza to usher in the Bengali New Year, Poila Boishakh at the Chaturanga ground of City Centre Durgapur on Sunday, 14th April 2013.

As built up steps for the cultural extravaganza, MTS organized auditions from 6th April at various places of South Bengal to provide opportunity to young and aspiring artists from Asansol, Bolpur, Burdwan and Durgapur to showcase their talent and share stage with star performers on 14th April 2013 at the Chaturanga ground of Durgapur. The extravaganza will showcase specialties of Bengal capturing the quintessential flavours of the rich Bengali culture – its cuisine, apparels, handicrafts, music etc.

The winners from the regional rounds of Asansol, Bolpur, Burdwan and Durgapur compete in the second round in Durgapur, yesterday. The second round of competition took place from 12:00 PM at the Srijoni Auditorium in Durgapur and was judged by the members of the popular Bengali band, Chandrabindoo.

Altogether 209 candidates took part in the second round of audition. This second round of audition took place for three categories: singing (Solo singing and in a band), dancing (classical and contemporary dance) and fashion (ethnic and fusion style). Officials said the atmosphere was electrifying and the excitement among the participants and their family members who thronged the Srijani auditorium was palpable. Candidates in serpentine queues waited for their turn to enter the auditorium.

The chosen few finalists from the second round will now compete for title on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the carnival day and will be adjudged by all the celebrity judges. List of judges includes, playback singer Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury of Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona fame and Tollywood actor Rudranil Ghosh with Chaplin, Bye Bye Bangkok, Byomkesh Bakshi and other acclaimed Bengali films to his credit. The winners of the final round will also get a life time opportunity to perform with the stars on stage and an opportunity to record a song under a reputed label.
