The encouraging news of Kolkata-based real estate company, the Jain Group planning to set up a five-star hotel in Durgapur, which was first published in Durgapuradda, the online news portal of Durgapur on 25 December 2013 may soon become a reality.
According to a recent press release, hospitality major InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has joined hands with Jain Group to develop south Bengal’s first eco-friendly five star hotel at an estimated cost of Rs 75-crore in the industrial town of Durgapur.
This tie up marks the entry of the Holiday Inn brand in Durgapur, the fastest growing industrial town north-east India. The hotel is expected to be operational with 2-3 years, a release said here today.
IHG franchises, leases, manages or owns over 4,700 hotels and 6,88,000 guest rooms in nearly 100 countries, with more than 1,100 hotels in its development pipeline.
“We understand the needs of today’s global travellers and are well-positioned to offer a unique guest experience to both business and leisure visitors to south Bengal when the new Holiday Inn opens in Durgapur,” IHG VP development, (South West Asia) Rajiv Sharma said.
“We are pleased to join hands with IHG. We are investing over Rs 75 crores in developing the Durgapur property and this will be the first 5-star eco-friendly hotel in West Bengal,” said Jain Group vice-chairman Shrayans Jain.
Jain Group along with IHG, would be developing two more 5-Star Holiday Inn properties in Kolkata and and Siliguri. The Kolkata property would be operational by the end of 2014, while the Siliguri property would be ready in the next 2-3 years.
The site of the proposed hotel in Durgapur is located next to NSHM Knowledge Campus near Muchipara adjacent to NH2.
