Durgapur News Desk, 24 October 2016: In a daring incident of robbery, an armed miscreant looted about INR 1 lakh from a petrol pump in Durgapur and shot dead a truck driver who tried to put up a resistance. The incident took place at a relatively busy area of the Durgapur town. Just one man looting a petrol pump has created sensation.
The daring robbery has been caught on the CCTV cameras installed at the Yadav Petrol Pump at Garage More in Durgapur; within 2 kilometers from Durgapur Railway Station and 1.5 kilometer from the Coke Oven police station.
According to owner Omprakash Yadav, miscreant Deepak Sau raided the pump brandishing a revolver at round 11 pm last night, threatening that he would open fire. He then looted INR 1 lakh from the cash box.
Through with the robbery, Deepak was about to leave the petrol pump, when Madan Chauhan, a truck driver employed by the pump owner tried to stop him. It was then that Deepak shot three bullets at him from a close range and then speeded away in a motorbike that he had parked on the road in front of the pump.
One of the bullets stuck Chauhan in the head; the other two hit him in the abdomen. Profuse bleeding led to his death on the spot.
On being alerted by the petrol pump staff, a team from nearby Coke Oven police station reached the spot soon. But by then the miscreant was nowhere in the area or at his residence located in nearby Nepali Para.
Police has taken the CCTV footage and a search has been initiated to nab Deepak Sau. Durgapur Police sounded hopeful of taking Sau into custody soon.
