Durgapur police arrested a married woman, her husband and her boyfriend in Durgapur yesterday (December 22). The woman and the astrologer were detained on charges of cheating and theft, while the husband was arrested on charges of torturing the woman.
Mrs. Baisakhi Sen, a housewife of Durgapur suddenly disappeared from her home on December 18 and her husband Mr Sanjib Sen, lodged a missing person dairy with the local Coke Oven police station.
Durgapur police began investigation and on questioning the family members came to the conclusion that Baisakhi, the mother of an eight year-old girl, had fled with an astrologer – Mr Amitabha Chattaraj. Police came to know that Mr Chattaraj of Damra locality in the Asansol (South) police station area was a frequenter to Baishakhi’s house in Sanjib’s absence.
Yesterday, Baishakhi appeared at the Coke Oven police station and lodged a complaint of physical torture against her husband.
Meanwhile, in a major twist to the entire incident, Baishakhi’s mother, Mrs Dolly Ghosh, brought theft charges against Baishakhi alleging that she had fled with her mother’s gold jewellery on 18 December. She also lodged a complaint with the Coke Oven police station in which she named the astrologer as well.
Acting on the complaint, finally Durgapur police arrested Baishakhi and the astrologer on charges of theft and cheating and Sanjib on charges of assault to Baishakhi.
