A class-XII school girl of Durgapur has lodged a complaint of rape with New Township police station in Durgapur. However the girl’s family had to face a lot of glitch in registering a complaint. Finally when the ADCP (East), Mr Sunil Yadav intervened, a complaint was registered at the New Township PS. Medical examination of the victim has been conducted at the Durgapur Sub Divisional Hospital.
The tribal girl who is a class XII student of DPL Girls was virtually forced by a youth named Ranjit Hembram of Maithon in Jharkhand to go to Maithon. The Durgapur girl met Ranjit about a year ago in a marriage ceremony of her relative in Maithon. The two had an affair, but over phone only.
On December 2 (Monday) the girl went to her school to collect form for availing benefits under State’s ‘Kanyashree’ project. Ranjit met her there and pressurized her to go to Maithon to meet Ranjit’s parent. Since it was a single day return journey from Durgapur, she agreed to go there with him.
Ranjit, who is a class XI student took the girl to a friend’s house and assured that his parent would come to meet her. The youth then allegedly raped her in the night. “There was no one to help me and respond to my screams, said the girl.
The next day, Ranjit dumped her in a Durgapur bound train and threatened her not to open her mouth.
Meanwhile, the girl’s father who is a worker with a private iron rod manufacturing company lodged a complaint with local police.
The girl on returning home on December 3 disclosed everything to her mother. The family decided to lodge complaint but the New Township police station refused to register a case of rape and referred her to the Coke Oven PS. The girl and her family is a resident of Bidhannagar area of Durgapur which comes under the New Township PS. The Coke Oven PS asked the girl’s family to lodge a complaint with the GRP.
Finally the girl’s family succeeded in meeting the ADCP (East), Mr Sunil Yadav. Mr Yadav intervened and directed the New Township PS to lodge a complaint report. A report has been lodged on December 4 evening.
When lodging an official complaint of rape is so difficult, getting the culprit booked under law seems virtually impossible.
