Durgapur Steel Plant reports higher production in Jan ’13

Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) has begun the New Year on a strong note, registering a 5% growth in saleable steel production in January over that in the first month of last year. In fact January 2013 turned out to be the “Best January” for the Durgapur unit of the Maharatna PSU, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Though the final audited figures are yet to come, but DSP’s production trend clearly suggests that the production curve is on the rise.
DSP has also achieved higher output in all major categories related to steel production, such as hot metal, crude steel, continuous casting, blend mix and sinter, in the just concluded month of January ’13.
During January, in the finished steel category, the outputs of medium, structural and earthquake resistant TMT bars were at 104% and 100% of monthly targets. In April 2012 and January 2013 period, the plant registered 6% growth in saleable steel production.
If this production trend continues, then under all likelihood, DSP will achieve its targeted production in this financial year.
