Guru Teg Bahadur Public School of Durgapur successfully hosted the CBSE Cluster – II East Zone Table Tennis Tournament at Sidhu Kanhu Indoor Stadium. 24 CBSE affiliated school of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa participated in the tournament. This is for the first time that a tournament of such huge stature has been organized in Duragpur.
The tournament was inaugurated by the Honourable Mayor of Durgapur, Mr. Apurba Mukherjee on 25th September. The cultural programme at the opening ceremony showcasing the usefulness of sports was highly appreciated by the spectators. Arrangements of accommodation and fooding were made by Guru Teg Bahadur Public School within its campus.
In the under 14 category for boys Central Model School of Barrakpore was the winner. In the under 16 category for boys DAV Model School of Durgapur won the champions trophy. While in under 19 category for boys Kalyani Public School of Barasat was the winner.
In under 14 category for girls Mahadevi Birla Girls Higher Secondary School of Kolkata bagged won the champions trophy. In under 16 category for girls DAV Model School of Durgapur was the winner. While in under 19 category for girls Kalyani Public School of Barasat was the winner.
At the closing ceremony on 27th September, Durgapur Mayor gave away the prizes to the winning teams. Other dignitaries who were present included all the prncipals of the CBSE affiliated schools of Durgapur, Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda, former Bengal Ranji Trophy captain and coach Sambaran Banerjee and a quite a few others. The cultural program showcasing the different folk dances of the three states (West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa) at the closing ceremony attarcted huge appreciation. The overall success of the tournament must give the booster dose to the school authority of Guru Teg Bahadur Public School to organize more such events in future.
