The gang beat up her husband who works in a nationalised bank and allegedly raped her.
AD CP (Durgapur) Sunil Yadav, while answering to reporters’ queries said that the lady lodged a complaint with the police last night and underwent medical tests but no evidence of gangrape has been established yet. However, he said that another confirmatory test would be carried out at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital again.
Nobody has been arrested yet, Yadav said. The husband of the woman has been held for questioning. The woman was her second wife, according police report.
At a time when incidents of rape are on the rise in Bengal under the rule of Mamata Banerjee’s government, this would definitely be a cause of concern for the government. Mamata Banerjee, who has already been under criticism for her government’s decision of compensating rape victim from all corners, will perhaps need to enforce a stringent and strong administrative law so as to check this kind of incidents from hapening.
