Kalipuja and Diwali celebrated with pomp

Durgapur being a city of mixed culture celebrated both Kalipuja and Diwali with much pomp. There has been a great deal of enthusiasm among the people regarding this dual festivity.

Diwali, the festival of light was the occasion when the entire city got lit up and thanks to the electric supply department for no power cuts. On the same night,godess Kali, symbolizing women power is worshipped with deep faith.

Among numerous Kalipuja held in the town, some of the pandal’s are so beautiful that they will make anyone spell bound. The puja of Amra Kajan, More Sammilani, Dishari Sangha, Rotary Club, Mahabir Sporting, etc. needs special mention.

In this year’s puja one new trend has been noticed, which needs special mention. Most of the puja organizers are organizing open stage programmes with renowned singers from Kolkata and Bombay. Some of the well known singers who performed at various puja pandals include, Usha Utthup, Imon, Sayantani and others.
