The man who allegedly tried to molest a 25-year-old lady of Asansol in the near-empty ladies’ compartment of the Delhi-Howrah Janata Express last Sunday (July 21) has been arrested on Friday (July 26) night from Makhla locality of Uttarpara in Hooghly district.
Deb Shankar Shaw (39) was picked up around 8.30 last night by the government railway police (GRP), who were armed with a sketch drawn on the basis of a description given by the victim.
Superintendent of railway police, Howrah, Milan Kanti Das said Debshankar Shaw, father of six daughters, was produced in court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for seven days. However, the victim is yet to identify the accused.
One may recall, that the young brave heart lady, a resident of Asansol, who has been working with an IT firm in Kolkata had to jump off the train to escape her molester. The lady has been working with the IT firm since the last three years and living as a paying guest with a friend in Gangulybagan area of Kolkata. She was returning to her workplace in Kolkata from her hometown in Asansol on last Sunday and boarded the Delhi-Howrah Janata Express.
A man snatched her cellphone and pulled her by the arm in the empty ladies compartment, as the train approached Belur station. With the man having cornered her, the helpless woman hurled herself out of the running train and landed along the tracks, about a hundred yards from the station. Locals rushed her to Belur State General Hospital, from where the woman was latar shifted to Belle Vue.
