New projects for Durgapur-Asansol

For the citizens of the twin city of Asansol and Durgapur, the New Year has begun on a smiling and happy note. The news of a host of Central Government projects for better infrastructure in Asansol-Durgapur region will definitely act as another booster dose for the twin city.
The union government has sanctioned Rs 70 Crore for the expansion and renovation of Gammon Bridge which connects Durgapur railway Station, Bankura, Purulia with the industrial town of Durgapur. The money has been sanctioned under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) scheme last week at a meeting in New Delhi. Considering the immense importance of this bridge, below which runs the all important Howrah-New Delhi railway line, the renovation work of this old bridge was the need of the hour. The detailed project report of the renovation work has been prepared by IL&FS. Work of the project is expected to begin very soon.

Gandhi More of Durgapur

Tapas Banerjee, the chairman of Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA), says that, “In next meeting of JNNURM at New Delhi, scheduled to be held at later half of this month, few more projects are expected to be sanctioned. Like the four lane Sen Raleigh Road to Burnpur from Jubilee more on NH2.According to JNNURM scheme, centre will bear 50% of the project cost, state government 25% and local body 25%. All these are truly inspiring words for the people of Durgapur and Asansol.
