After becoming the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will visit Durgapur for the first time. The President is scheduled to reach Durgapur for the 9th convocation of the National Institute of Technology – a deemed tech-varsity on 22 November. The President will be the chief guest of the convocation ceremony.
Preparation for the President’s visit to the industrial town is in full swing now-a-days. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has taken control over the Durgapur skyline these days.
Yesterday at around 11.15 am an IAF chopper (No: Z 2963) appeared in the southern skyline of Durgapur’s Steel Township. After two hours yet another chopper appeared from the northern corner. Both the choppers landed at the Rajiv Gandhi Mela Maidan, which has been used as temporary helipad in number of occasions in the past.
More than a hundred cars, motorbikes and pedestrians made beeline to the helipad to have a glimpse of the scene.
One senior official with the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate said: “The choppers are conducting mock fly programmes and also are taking pan videography shots to ensure the President’s security.”
The IAF officials from Panagarh Air Force Station also rushed to the spot. “As per protocol, every possible security measures are being ensured for the President by the concerned departments here,” said Mr. Soumitra Mohan, DM of Burdwan.
