Operations of Durgapur Cement have been severely affected by the cyclone “Phailin” which struck Bengal and Orissa on October 13. Production had to be suspended due to lack of power supply as some of the key electric poles got uprooted.
Birla Corporation sources said that production will be resumed only after restoration of power supply which may take up to two week.
“The operations at the company’s Durgapur Cement units have been affected on account of severe ‘Tornado’ on October 13, 2013, which damaged local high tension line and pole structure… The production of cement can be resumed only after the restoration of power supply,” the company said in a filing to Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
The company further said that Damodar Valley Corporation along with the company has initiated necessary action for restoration of power supply and it is expected that the supply will resume in 10-12 days time.
