Durgapur News Desk, 05 April 2017: Once again parents of Durgapur Public School blocked road demanding reversal of at least some portion of the exorbitant fee hike at the start of the new academic year. One might remember that earlier on 17 March also the parents blocked the busy road connecting the Bidhannagar locality with the Durgapur Sub Divisional hospital.
Being approached by the parents, SDO Durgapur, Mr. Sankha Santra convened a meeting with the school management and guardian representatives on 27 March. While condemning the school’s decision of fee hike, Mr. Santra directed the school management to settle down the issue amicably after due consultation with parents.
Industrialist Mr S.K Sharma promoted SKS Educational and Social Trust however showed no urge to sit with the parents and comply with the directive given by the SDO Durgapur.
Established in the year 2008, Durgapur Public School is one of the many educational institutes run by the SKS Educational and Social Trust. Other notable educational hub of the SKS Froup in and around Durgapur includes, Bengal College of Engineering and Technology, S.K.S. Public School at Raniganj, Bengal College of Engineering and Technology for Women, Bengal College of Polytechnic and Bengal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research.
On 30 March, representatives from the guardians once again met the school principal Mrs. Kuldip Kaur, at her office and urged for a speedy settlement of the whole issue. The principal took time till 3 April.
The guardians patiently waited till 3 April and then once again retorted to protest demonstration in front of the school on 4 April. Officer-in-charge along with a team of policemen from the local police station rushed in to lift the road blockade.
The policemen met the school management and urged the need to comply with SDO Durgapur appeal. School management informed that they are trying to convene a meeting with the guardian’s representatives on 12 April at 3 pm.
However the guardians are skeptical as nothing has been informed till date.
