Railway budget ’11 – nothing for Durgapur

Expectations of the people of Durgapur, that the Rail Budget of 2011 will fulfill at least some of their wishes has been shattered. Mamta Banerjee, the Railway Minister with an eye on the forthcoming assembly election showered special packages and trains benefiting almost every assembly of Bengal. But Durgapur, the industrial hub of Bengal has not been given anything to cheer about.

People of Durgapur, through their elected representatives and leaders of Trinamool Congress made the Railway Minister know that they urgently need trains which will start from Durgapur and run uninterrupted to Kolkata. This has been the main demand of the people of Durgapur, for quite some years now. Unfortunately, this demand of Durgapurians has not been taken care of, even this year too.

Another demand of the people of this fastest growing city of Bengal was to revamp and make Durgapur Station, a world-class one. Though the poor condition of Durgapur Station got some uplift during the era of Lalu Prasad Yadav as Railway Minister, but nothing has been done after that.

Why Durgapur and its people has been left out of the special packages offered by the Railway Minister in her Railway Budget this year or in earlier budget as well is not known. Presenting a populist budget for the people of Bengal and still not announcing anything for the people of Durgapur is something which beyond logic and reasons.
