Post-poll violence continued unabated in different parts of the South Bengal districts. At Panagarh near Durgapur, at around 1 pm yesterday, a large crowd of Trinamool Congress supporters armed with lathis, rods, bombs in their hands stormed into the zonal office of CPI(M) beside the Panagarh market.
After making a clean sweep in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election defeating the Left, Trinamool Congress has now embarked on the mission of abolishing all that is connected with Left including, may it be CPI(M) party members or party offices. Police has been kept mum by the administration and administrative heads.
The area falls under the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency in which TMC candidate won by a considerable margin.
The party leaders including district secretariat member Mr Bireswar Mondal and district committee leader Mr Alok Bhattacharya and a zonal member Mr Omprakash Agarwal were inside the office. The crowd broke open the door and intruded into the office and destroyed the computers, papers, furniture, books, pictures of party leaders and important documents at their will.
They then hurled bomb inside, the leaders got into the first floor and locked themselves. Police was also informed but that was of no use. The mob of TMC supporters then torched two cars and destroyed five motorbikes. None has been arrested in this connection.
However this is not the only incident in Durgapur and adjacent area. There have been many incidents of threatening the Left supporters and harassing them. The situation is such that the victims are even scared to report the incidents to police.
