Covering more than 10,000 kilometers across the length and breadth of the country, the CPI(M) is organizing four Jatha (marches) starting from four corners of the country which will all proceed towards the national capital, New Delhi carrying the message of struggle for alternative policies.
The Jatha generated a lot of enthusiasm among the citizens of Durgapur. From the morning only, supporters and common people gathered in large number near the Bimal Dasgupta Bhavan at City Centre of Durgapur, which is also the CPI (M) zonal party office of the region. The rally started at 9 am in the morning from Bimal Dasgupta Bhavan at City Centre and took to the National Highway 2 at Gandhi More. There were nearly 2000 bikes which took part in the rally. The bus of the Sangharsh Sandesh Jatha carrying Com. Prakash Karat, Com. Biman Bose, other state and district leaders was in the front of the rally. People gathered in large numbers to watch the Jatha which moved slowly towards Asansol.
The ‘Sangharsh Sandesh Jatha’, as it is called, is being held to address the issues and concerns of the millions of common people of the country – of the kissans, agricultural workers, workers in the organized and unorganized sectors, of women, dalits, adivasis, minorities and down trodden.
The Southern Jatha has already been flagged off on February 24, 2013 from Kanyakumari. It was inaugurated by Prakash Karat. This Jatha is being led by CPI (M) Polit Bureau member S Ramachandran Pillai. The Eastern Jatha from Kolkata is being led by CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat himself. The Western Jatha from Mumbai led by Sitaram Yechury will begin its march towards Delhi on March 8. The Northern Jatha from Amritsar led by CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat will begin on March 4. All these Jatha will culminate in a huge central rally in New Delhi on March 19.
The CPI (M) has embarked on these Jatha in an effort to mobilize public opinion against the anti-people policies of the Central as well as the State Governments. The Jatha would educate the people on the issues of food security, rising prices, education, health, unemployment, unabated corruption and rights of women, tribal’s, dalits and minorities. They will highlight the demands and rights of the people like right to land and house-sites, right to food, right to education and employment, right to health facilities and cheap medicines, right to a life free from discrimination on the basis of caste, community and gender.
