Durgapur News Desk, 26 July 2018: State Tourism minister Goutam Deb inaugurated the State Institute of Hotel Management in Durgapur yesterday. Named ‘Aahoran’, this is the first of its kind initiative of the Bengal government.
Built on a sprawling area of 5 acres at a cost of nearly 2 crores, the institute aims to attract young, enthusiastic boys and girls to acquire soft, hard and managerial skills to become competent in the Hospitality industry of the country.
Durgapur, which has in recent time earned a name for being the ‘Educational Hub’ of eastern India, already have several private hotel management institutes; but this being under the direct control of the Bengal government, promises the best education with a modern and professional approach along with “State of the Art” facilities.
The institute will be affiliated to New Delhi based National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology. It will be offering degree courses in hotel management and catering technology. It also has the mandate to offer short-term diploma and certificate courses.
Industry sources feel that this will be a boon for the hospitality industry in the state as there is a huge demand for trained workforce for the industry with several hospitality projects coming up in and around Durgapur and in different parts of the East and Northeast.
Inaugurating the spectacular institute building at Jemua Durgapur, minister Deb promised that within next one year, hostel facilities will be built up for the students, within the campus.
56 students have already taken admission in the three year B.Sc course.
The Durgapur facility is able to cater more than 600 students efficiently. The institue has 4 modern Kitchens, 2 modern Bakery & Confectionary, 2 well equipped Food & Beverage Lab with bar facilities, Housekeeping Lab and Laundry Lab, Modern Demo Guest Rooms, Computer and Property Management Software Labs, Front Office Labs, Auditorium, Conference Hall. SIHM AAHORAN also provides State of the Art Library where students can learn any subject matter by reference. The campus is equipped with Wi-Fi facility along with recreational facility for students with separate Common Room, Gym for both Boys and Girls.
