Three Durgapur NPTI girls arrested

Three girls of National Power Training Institute at Durgapur have been arrested on a number of charges including attempting to murder. The three girls were arrested when they were trying to flee from the campus on Wednesday, December 08th. All the girls belong to fourth year B Tech and are from well-to-do affluent families. Later on they were produced in court on 09th December and subsequently sent to Jail custody.
Report says that Arpita Das, Deblina Halder and Subhoshree Dhar all students of fourth year took a student of first year to an empty room on November 15th and allegedly whisked her with a volley of questions. When the scared fresher was unable to reply, they hit her repeatedly. Sources said the trio also made the girl strip and took her photos, which they later posted online. Unable to bear the trauma, the girl slashed her wrists the next morning. She was rushed to a local nursing home in a serious condition.
Based on the guardian’s complaint, the college suspended the three girls on November 19th and a committee was formed to probe the incident. The probe committee submitted its report on November 25th. M Arunachalam, the director of the institute, lodged an FIR against the girls about 10 days ago only after the probe committee report was submitted.
