Durgapur News Desk, 17 January 2017: Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Mr Babul Supriyo’s was on yesterday (Monday) attacked allegedly by Trinamool Congress activists at Andal More while he was on his way to attend an official programme of Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Plant. The minister, who is also the sitting MP of Asansol Lok Sabha constituency however escaped unhurt an official visit to a thermal power station here, but escaped unhurt and did manage to go to the event at the Durgapur Thermal Power Station in Andal.
His convoy was stuck for about 20 minutes after which state police and his own security personnel removed the blockade and his convey managed to enter the thermal plant complex in Andal. The union minister was travelling with his daughter and parents in the car.
“During a regular visit to… Durgapur, as usual, aggressive TMC goons stone pelting and trying to break my car,” Mr Supriyo tweeted around 5 pm.
Kalo Baran Mondal, TMC panchayat samiti sabhapati of Andal said that they were protesting the central government’s conspiracy against the state. The mob which gheraoed Supriyo’s convoy was carrying black flags and TMC flags. They allegedly threw stones at the singer-turned-politician.
Neither the Trinamool Congress nor the local police commented on the incident.
This is not the first time Mr Supriyo has had run-ins with the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. Some months ago, TMC workers had surrounded his car at his parliamentary constituency of Asansol.
Following the arrest of Trinamool Congress MPs Tapas Paul and Sudip Banyopadhyay by the CBI over their alleged involvement in the Rose Valley ponzi scam, TMC has been constantly demanding Mr Supriyo’s arrest in the matter.
