The Trinamool Councillor of Asansol Municipal Corporation, Mr. Aniraban Das, alias Animesh has again hit the news headlines, and this time too for a wrong reason. Two policemen and a truck driver have filed a written complaint of assault against Animesh Das, the Trinamool Councillor of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday.
According to the complaint, member mayor in council (MMIC) and Trinamool councillor of Block No. 30, Animesh Das, got into an altercation with a truck driver on Sen Raleigh Road near the HLG Hospital More at around 8 am on Wednesday and reportedly started thrashing the driver. Mr. Das was not alone; there were other aides of him also who also thrashed other truck drivers as well. It was then that the policemen – traffic constable Subir Kumar Pal and CPVF Vikash Kumar rushed to the latter’s rescue.
The cops alleged that Das also slapped them. He reportedly accused the two of taking bribes from drivers and allowing heavy vehicles into the town during the no-entry time and threatened them with dire consequences.
Commissioner of police (Asansol-Durgapur), Ajay Kumar Nand, told that they have already initiated a probe based on the complaint. Councillor, Animesh Das denied having beaten up either the driver or the policemen, however he said that there was indeed a heated altercation with the truck driver.
As reported earlier in Durgapuradda, it may well be recalled that the money lending company, Astha, of which Mr. Animesh Das is a co-owner is already under scanner. On 28th April, Asansol police took for “verification” some documents from the Asansol office of Astha which does not have requisite authorization to transact such businesses.
