Bike rally of Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists in support of the party’s candidate for the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency on April 14 has prompted the prompted the poll panel to seek a report about the incident. Bardhaman is one of the two districts in Bengal where bike rally before poll has been banned totally.
The CPI(M) has already complained of Model Code of Conduct violation by Trinamool Congress candidate for the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat, Dr Mamtaz Sanghamita Chowdhury, as she allegedly didn’t seek police permission to hold a motorbike rally in the town.
Report suggests that TMC activists held a motorbike rally with party candidate Dr. Chowdhury yesterday morning. The rally started from DVC More of Durgapur and after passing through MAMC Township ended at Bidhan Nagar locality of Durgapur.
CPI(M) candidate for the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, Sk. Saidul Haque said that they have already lodged complain with Election Commission about TMC supporters and its candidate violating the violating the model code of conduct.
Meanwhile, Dr Chowdhury said: “There was no bike rally. Some supporters had voluntarily joined the road show with their vehicles and most were passers-by.”
Durgapur SDO Kasturi Sengupta said that she has sought report from the concerned police posts and added that action will be taken after the report comes in.
Trinamool Congress activists on Thursday allegedly assaulted several Election Commission (EC) officials in Malda district of West Bengal for objecting to a party candidate’s motorcycle rally, prompting the poll panel to seek a report about the incident.
One may well recall that on April 10, two officials of Election Commission were assaulted allegedly by the workers of Trinamool Congress when the latter’s bike rally in Malda was being videographed by the poll officials.
