Durgapur police has arrested four senior officials of ‘Bardhaman Sanmarg’, an NGO cum chit fund from its branch office in Suhatta shopping mall at Durgapur City Centre on Thursday night. They were booked on charges of cheating public.
On July 17 (Wednesday) depositors raided the offices and attacked the officials after being denied of their maturity sum. Several depositors, like Somnath Ruj, Barnali Kundu, Alpana Singh, lodged an FIR against Surajit Mondal, Shipra Mondal, the agents of the chit fund alleging that they were denying refund of their deposited amount. Nearly 60 depositors gheraoed the branch.
Mr Ruj in his complaint said: “I have deposited Rs 1.56 lakh in the company shouldering a monthly installment of Rs 14200. Now the company is dodging us at the time of payment. In spite of repeated appeals, the company is refusing the refund.”
Based on the specific complaint by the depositor, police has initiated an investigation and arrested four senior officials of the company. An interrogation is on, revealed police sources.
