Indian Railway has launched an online application RailRadar, which will enable one to find the exact geographical location of about 6,500 trains of Indian Railways on Google map on real time basis. RailRadar can be accessed through the railway website trainenquiry.com. Indian Railways have launched the RailRadar project on a pilot basis and will be a permanent feature son.
Indian Railways is an Indian state-owned enterprise, owned and operated by the government of India through the Ministry of Railways. Indian Railways is one of the world’s largest railway networks comprising 115,000 Km of track over a route of 65,000 Km, 7,500 stations 10,000 trains daily and handles about 7,500 million passengers annually or more than 20 million passengers daily.
A senior Railway Ministry official involved with the project informed that, to know the current running status of the train, one can either enter the name of the train, or the train number if, and the system will show the exact location of the train and will further tell you whether that particular train is delayed or running on time. He further explained that the system has a colour coding method to indicate whether a particular train is on time (highlighted in blue) or delayed (highlighted in red). One can also see all the trains which are arriving at the station or have just departed with the name of the station. He said if you click on a particular train, the map will show the exact route of the train including all the stoppages and the current location of the train on the real time basis.
Though Indian Railways operate more than 10,000 trains everyday but currently the RailRadar can spot about 6500 trains. This little step of Indian Railways to adopt technology will surely boost passenger’s confidence
