Identifying stroke and saving a life

A fast growing city like Durgapur is quite familiar with one of the major heart ailment, Stroke. Junk food, fast life style, stress and lack of exercise, which people of Durgapur has incorporated in his lifestyle is contributing immensely in the growing number of Stroke cases. We all have heard about stroke and perhaps have seen stroke patients as well. People dying of stroke are quite common and those who don’t die end up in a helpless, hopeless condition.
According to Neurologists if a stroke victim is given proper medical attention within 3 hours of stroke the effects of stroke can be totally reversed. But the trick lies in getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
But learning and remembering the following 4 easy steps can prove to be real handy in identifying a stroke victim. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions :-
1) Ask the person to Smile.
2) Ask the person to Talk and Speak A Simple Sentence (Coherently)
(For example – Ask the person to say “Its raining since morning”).
3) Ask the person to Raise Both Arms.
If the person has trouble with anyone of these tasks then immediately take him to a doctor or a hospital immediately.
4) Ask the person to ‘Stick’ out his Tongue. If the tongue is ‘crooked’ or if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
In that case also take him to a doctor or a hospital immediately.
The above 4 steps can save a life. So learn them and spread the knowledge to everyone.
