Chief minister of West Bengal inaugurated the airport at Andal near Durgapur yesterday (19 September) and named it as Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport after the famous Bengali poet, amidst serious concerns as to how the high tension lines that run across the runway of the proposed airport are to be removed.
Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will visit the Andal airport and the allied Sujalaam Skycity near Durgapur on 19 September to name the airport after famous Bengal poet, Kavi Nazrul. This will be her maiden visit to the Andal airport about which she didn’t had a favourable opinion before being the chief minister.
Helicopter services operator Pawan Hans and BAPL, developer of the airport city at Andal near Durgapur signed a historic MoU at the state secretariat today for the beginning of the first commercial flight between the steel town of Durgapur and Behala in Kolkata. However, unless high tension power lines that run diagonally over the runway are removed issuance of license to the airport by the DGCA will not happen and that will delay aircraft flight service.
