Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will visit the Andal airport and the allied Sujalaam Skycity near Durgapur on 19 September to name the airport after famous Bengal poet, Kavi Nazrul. This will be her maiden visit to the Andal airport about which she didn’t had a favourable opinion before being the chief minister.
Durgapur – the industrial hub of West Bengal is one of the most polluted cities of the country as well. Aggregation of a large number of industries in and around Durgapur, indiscriminate cutting of trees to make room for the rapidly increasing population and uncontrolled addition of waste into the environment by the industries of Durgapur are the major cause of this pollution.
After Mr Bansogopal Chowdhury, the Asansol MP, who had been a long-term chairman of the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority resigned on 22nd May, speculation was rife as to who will be the next ADDA chairman. The ruling TMC government yesterday announced the name of Tapas Bandopadhaya as the new ADDA chairman.
