A gang of five, kidnapped a class X student on Friday (13 September) on the Uday Shankar Bithi road in City Centre of Durgapur at around 8.45 pm, when he was heading for his house on a bicycle. However, the boy had a miraculous escape when the vehicle in which the kidnappers were carrying him lost control and overturned soon after crossing the Ajoy river bridge linking Burdwan and Birbhum.
An incident of a daring robbery by a gang of eight armed youths at a businessman’s house barely 150 metres from the City Centre police outpost in Durgapur has virtually shaken the residents of the industrial town. The robbers were in their early twenties and the gang sneaked into the house after removing the iron grille of a window on the ground floor of the two-storeyed house at 2.30 am on Monday.
After the August 11 fiasco at a dance bar in the state-owned complex, Dreamplex, at City Centre of Durgapur, police have suggested closure of the bar as they felt that it was breaking law and order in the area. The Bar owner however said that they have the requisite permission for a dance bar issued by the Police Commissioner.
Fire broke out at a private finance company’s office in Durgapur’s City Centre area on Saturday night. Fire services office being located very near the four storied building in which the office was located, much damage was averted and fire couldn’t damage several other offices located in the same building.
The science and energy park of Durgapur got partially gutted in a fire which broke out yesterday morning. The park which had been lying close since 2009 was once a popular place of visit in Durgapur. Though fire fighters got control of the fire and prevented much damage, now it is the people of Durgapur who needs to raise their voice to re-open the park.
