Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is planning to develop food processing clusters in its 250 acres of unused land at Panagarh near Durgapur. DVC chairman told reporters that he is confident about the viability of a food processing cluster at Panagarh and said that it will be a win-win situation for both the airport at Durgapur and the industry.

Bardhaman district administration has seized 25 acres of land from the NGO Bikalpa who were running the Kanksa residential school where an incident of food poisoning has taken the life of a nine year old girl on 24th March. Incidentally the CPI (M) backed NGO has been running the school meant for tribals only since 2004.
Death of a class class III student of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Memorial School in Kanksa near Durgapur and 58 other students being admitted in the sub-divisional hospital in Durgapur has snowballed into a political blame game. The school is a co-d-educational residential school run by an NGO since 2004.
