Despite strong opposition by CITU and some other central trade unions, SAIL management decides to release ‘advance’ of annual ex-gratia (bonus) to its employees before settling on the final quantum of the bonus. Five of the central trade unions earlier served ‘Strike Notice’ to SAIL management declaring strike in all SAIL units on 19 November to protest an earlier decision of the SAIL management denying annual ex-gratia to its employees.
Durgapur, the industrial hub of West Bengal saw mixed response on the first day of the two-day industrial strike which began today. Though attendance and production in most of the major industries of Durgapur was normal, people on the road, markets and malls were very poor. Road remained empty, schools were mostly closed, banks remained shut and even government offices lacked visitors.
The indefinite bus strike at Durgapur has came to an end after a day. The bus strike which began on 10th August has been called off after getting assurances from concerned authority that matters of concern and grievances will be looked with adequate urgency. The people sighed relief after getting the news of buses have once again started to move.
