State industry minister Mr. Partha Chatterjee, accompanied by agriculture minister Moloy Ghatak met Trinamool leaders and Essar Oil official at Durgapur yesterday to resolve the deadlock surrounding Essar’s Coal Based Methane project. Villagers led by Trinamool leaders stopped production of CBM at Essar Oil’s well in Akandara village of Durgapur on Sunday.
Work at Essar Oil’s coal-bed Methane project in Akandara village in Kanksa PS near Durgapur got halted yesterday because of agitation by 200 villagers led by the Trinamool peasants’ cell block president Ajijul Middya. The villagers were protesting discharge of effluents from the project site, contaminating ponds and agricultural fields and demanding jobs as compensation.
Most of the Durgapur Trinamool leaders whose names were printed on the invitation card for a Kathak dance programme in Srijani Auditorium that attracted controversy after several Durgapur traders alleges of extortion while collecting advertisement for the dance show by Trinamool leaders, preferred to stay away.
